    Thank you, Beaverton! 21st Phone-a-thon Raises $106,000

It takes a community to make strong public schools; thank you, Beaverton Families, for your support

Thank you to our Beaverton community, which rallied in support of our 53 public schools by donating over $106,000 to the Beaverton Education Foundation during our 21st annual Phone-a-thon.

This success is made possible by 350+ high school volunteers, more than 60 adult volunteers and the support of 1,800 individuals who pledged during the five-night phone campaign.

The high school volunteers practiced valuable professional and personal skills at Ruby Receptionists in Beaverton, OR as they made over 30,000 calls over a two-week time period. These students reached out to the community spreading the word of BEF’s work benefiting all 53 of Beaverton’s public schools. If you did not connect with one of our BEF volunteers you can make a contribution today.

Excellent work by the top calling teams of each night: Aloha Choir, Aloha Theater Arts, Beaverton Key ClubSunset Cheer, and the Westview Thespians.  Each one of these teams were able to raise the most dollars on their respective calling nights.

The support from our generous community continued, with business partners Reser’s Fine Foods and First Tech Federal Credit Union offering challenge grants to new donors and increased gifts. We are honored to offer this option and thank you for making this possible.

Special thanks continue to our 2019 business supporters: adidas Employee Store, Burgerville Signature, Chipotle (Murray Scholls), Costco (Aloha), Dutch Bros (Scholls), Jamba Juice (Murray Scholls), KingPins Family Entertainment Center, MOD Pizza (Greenway), Pastini (Cedar Hills Crossing), Pizzicato Gourmet Pizza (Murray Scholls), Portland Trail Blazers, Target (Beaverton and Tanasbourne), and the Beaverton Valley Times/Pamplin Media Group.

It takes a community to make strong public schools; thank you, Beaverton, for your support.  You can still help our 41,000 Beaverton students have the opportunity to be inspired, think innovatively and succeed by donating today.

    21st Annual Phone-a-thon – October 9 through October 17

Starting Wednesday, October 9th and continuing through Thursday, October 17th, 350 high school students, from all of Beaverton’s schools will volunteer to make more than 30,000 calls to community members to ask for participation in the 21st annual Beaverton Education Foundation Phone-a-thon.

The BEF Phone-a-thon provides critical funds that support innovative academic enrichment and advancement programs for all students in Beaverton’s public schools.  The Phone-a-thon would not be possible without generous support and sponsorship from Ruby Receptionists, First Tech Federal Credit Union, Reser’s Fine Foods, and the Beaverton Valley Times.

When our student volunteers call, please answer and make a gift. Help fund innovative and inspirational classroom, before, after and summer school programs, and projects that help all students in our 53 Beaverton public schools.

  • Year in Review

    Year in Review

We are proud to share the Foundation’s accomplishments for the past academic year. As we move into the 2019-20 academic year join us in building on this solid foundation for all staff and students.

During the 2018-2019 school year, $390,603 was awarded to District staff and schools for 124 hands-on classroom projects, extended day and year programs, special activities and high school leadership and activity groups. These projects reached 27,481 students at 51 schools.BEF funded in 2018-2019:

    • Camp Achieve, drawing from students at 11 elementary schools
    • 9 Extended day programs (after and before school),  including one at each of the traditional middle schools
    • 5 Innovative pilot programs including Summer Trade exploration
    • 79 classroom projects including 38 elementary schools projects
    • 54 of the projects and extended day/summer programs funded were through the BEF Building STEAM 4 All program. This promotes activities in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.

Our goal this year is to fund 150 projects and reach 30,000 students at all 53 schools. Your financial support of BEF is vital and ensures that thousands of students benefit from these important hands-on projects and programs.

THANK YOU to the more than 2,500 donors and over 700 volunteers that helped make these programs happen. We know these programs only exist through the insightful work of our school staff and are pleased to be able to provide the means to accomplish these vital hands-on learning for all of our students.

  • BEF Intern – Emily

    BEF Intern – Emily

We had the great privilege of having an intern on our staff this summer. Emily, a former Beaverton student helped out in many aspects over the summer from photographer to video editor and beyond. “Emily was a huge asset to BEF’s visual communications,” said Kelly Quashnie creative director at Studio Cue, BEF’s graphic design firm. “We were thrilled to have Emily join our team. Her photo and video support helped us achieve a thoughtful, well organized image library containing a variety of images that captured the essence of BEF programs and projects that take place all year long. It was great opportunity for Emily to continue to develop her design, project management and video/photography skills in a real-life setting while on break from Parsons School of Design.”

Emily shared her thoughts on her internship with BEF:

“I attended Beaverton Schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade including middle and high school at the Arts and Communications Magnet Academy where I specialized in visual arts. I am currently a sophomore at Parsons School of Design in New York City majoring in Illustration and communication design.

This was an exciting opportunity for me to apply some of my background in visual arts specifically in the area of photography and I gained valuable skills that will benefit me in my future endeavors as an artist and designer. I photographed BEF summer events and tried to capture essence of the program and the students and teachers involved.  After capturing the photos I edited them to try to enhance the visual appeal of the images and also helped to organize the full archive of BEF photography to allow for better accessibility and for planned updates to the BEF website.

From a broader perspective I was able to see the impact that the BEF has on schools within the district on multiple levels.  I was able to see the effect of their Camp Achieve program on summer slide in elementary school students and a new trade program for education at the middle school level.  I saw students learning and having fun and it made me appreciate being a part of a community that supports educational programs through a non-profit like the BEF.

I’m grateful for this opportunity and for all of the donors who helped sustain the efforts of the BEF.”
