Beaverton’s Choice is a crowdfunding platform, created by Beaverton Education Foundation (BEF), exclusively for BSD staff to access expanded support and matched funds for their school or classroom projects and programs. 

A convenient online resource, Beaverton’s Choice provides an easy way to share your innovative programs and projects with BEF’s connected and engaged community of donors. BEF staff are here to support you with personalized support, supply purchases, and deliveries. 

The best part, there are no fees! All money raised goes directly to your classrooms and schools.

This academic school year we have worked with 82 teachers and staff to award $74,917 in funding for 28 classroom projects through Beaverton’s Choice. We can’t stop there – we want to help every staff member in the District.

The Beaverton community is amazingly supportive in their commitment to education. Donors like you helped fund projects and programs for 20,833 students in Beaverton schools during the last school year. Donations from as small as a nickel add up to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Beaverton students.

Are your empty cans and bottles piling up? 

Deliver your returnable cans and bottles to specially marked Cans for Kids bins inside New Seasons Market stores at Cedar Hills – where BEF receives all of the proceeds or at Progress Ridge – where BEF receives a share.

Those cans and bottles add up. Since 2012 BEF donations from Cans for Kids total $173,362 – 2,624,691 cans that span 200 miles – from Beaverton to Crater Lake!

Did you know you can get even more at your favorite one-stop shop?

Fred Meyer Rewards Card members can earn rewards for themselves and for BEF too! Simply link your card to BEF (non-profit number HK006) and shop. Each purchase you make supports Beaverton students and you still earn your rewards. During last quarter, linked Fred Meyer Rewards Card members generated enough donations to BEF to support 30 students in BEF-funded projects.

Use Amazon’s AmazonSmile with Beaverton Education Foundation as your AmazonSmile charity of choice. All orders placed through your BEF-linked AmazonSmile account provide direct support to student-engaged projects. To date, AmazonSmile has donated over $4,000 to BEF to support hands-on student learning projects.

Books are powerful. They transport, educate, and broaden our world. However, that magic only happens when children have access – something many of us take for granted. Thanks to generous donors, we have placed critical books in the hands of students at all of Beaverton’s 53 schools during the last year.

Working with our community partners and donors, BEF purchased and delivered over 5,000 books to students and teachers, offering a unique experience that is especially important during distance learning. These books support projects like Understanding Our Times and The Conscious Kid, as well as summer and after school programs like Camp Achieve and Safe and Sound 4 Student Success (S4).

While every book delivery is a success for our students, there are some programs that dramatically exceeded everyone’s expectations. The Camp Connect Pilot Program had a tremendous impact, increasing school attendance through facilitated outreach to students at four elementary schools. Camp Connect began as an extension of BEF’s summer academic program Camp Achieve, and laid the groundwork for a dynamic District collaboration, allowing for widespread outreach to students at all of Beaverton’s 34 elementary schools. 

While purchasing a few books for a student may seem simple, the impact is often immediate and lasting. “Thank you so much for the books! They are so good that I want to read them again and again,” said one grateful student, adding, “I am overjoyed. I finally get to read a new book!”

Funding for these programs and projects are only possible with our business partners, local funders, and you. Our work to deliver books into the hands of students who need them the most is powerful, but also highlights how much more there is still left to accomplish.

A Beaverton Education Foundation partner since 2002, our local New Seasons Market, have provided multiple opportunities for BEF in enhancing Beaverton student’s academic experiences, through generous financial support totaling more than $350,000 over the history of the partnership. Plus, $1000s of dollar of in-kind connections and products to support our Beaverton students.

New Seasons Market are know for their commitment to: neighborhood, friendliness, taking care of each other, championing healthy regional food, building community, and diversity. In addition to supporting our general programs and projects, Beaverton school staff can apply for funding via the Spirit of New Seasons Market Fund, through the BEF Beaverton’s Choice award program, by describing how a project fits the core New Seasons Market philosophy.

In continuing efforts, you also have additional ways to support our schools through the New Seasons Market – Cans for Kids program. From November – December 2020, BEF received a donation of $928 from cans and bottles donated through the Cans for Kids program. That’s a lot of cans!

Beaverton’s Choice is a Beaverton Education Foundation (BEF) online resource that enables Staff in Beaverton’s public schools to help fund their school or classroom projects.

Thanks to our generous donors including: Dave Gettling Technology Fund, Intel Corp., First Tech Federal Credit Union, The Spirit of New Seasons Market Awards, AHS Go Warriors! Opportunity Fund, and the BEF Building STEAM 4 All Program, we have awarded $61,587 funding 26 classroom projects so far this academic year.
